Rural-Urban Fringe
The rural–urban fringe is the area where a town or city meets the surrounding countryside. It is a transition zone that includes both urban and rural features. Because it is relatively close to the city, but has more space and cheaper land, a range of land uses can be found here.
Magmo's Missions

The Rural-Urban Fringe:
1. Cathy and Heath are a young couple wanting to move out of the city. Describe two advantages and two disadvantages of living in the rural-urban fringe.
2a. Explain the difference between a greenfield site and a brownfield site.
2b. Twenty new homes are going to be built in the rural-urban fringe. Debate whether they should be built on a greenfield site or a brownfield site and justify your answer.
3. Describe two ways that retail parks and industrial estates can benefit the local community and two drawbacks of their development.
4. Imagine you have lived in the rural-urban fringe your whole life. There are now plans for a science park to be built near your home. Draft a short letter to the council that includes your concerns but also the potential benefits.
